Pasil's Pride
Hey, food enthusiast! Do you have what it takes to try and experience street dining in Pasil? Ever heard of tuslob buwa?
This exotic dish is found only in the entrails, nooks and streets of Pasil. As mentioned by Jessica Soho in her show, it is made up of minced pig's brain and liver, mixed with soy sauce and spices. The dish is brought to a slow simmer and when the sauce becomes thicker, the cook will tell the diners that its time to dip the puso or the rice ball into the wok. So its actually eating direct from the cooking pan with your bare hands! You have to be careful not to scald with your finger while dipping your puso!
Another downside of eating this dish is that you get to dip your puso with other diners! Hepatitis and typhoid fever alert!!!! You don't even know if these people washed their hands before dipping their puso into the pan.
I remember the first time I tried "tuslob buwa" several years ago with my co-workers, we requested a tuslob buwa vendor near our work place to cook the dish exclusively for us.
The food actually tastes good. It is also budget-friendly. One doesn't have to pay for the dip. One pays for the puso or rice ball only for P3.00 each. Tuslob-buwa plus a bottle of ice-cold Coke is already "Heaven" for a hungry soul.
